With the development of technology, the amount of
heterogeneous, structured or unstructured data gathered is
increasing exponentially. Traditional database mechanisms have
become inefficient in terms of storage, processing and analysis big
data. Big Data has emerged as a significant area for both
practitioners and researchers and it presents many opportunities
to industries. One of the them is energy sector. The increase in the
amount of data gathered in parallel with the increasing energy
problem worldwide has made it necessary to use big data in the
field of energy. The huge volumes of data now available in the
energy sector present major data handling challenges. The rapid
growth of Big Data is occurring just as saving energy has become
a top priority for government and industry. This study reviews the
Big Data and its applications, methods used for Big Data analysis
and the main problems with Big Data in the field of energy
management.
